Dr. Shilpa Karir is known for her dedication to teaching, commitment to public health, and active participation in academic and community-oriented activities. She continues to contribute significantly to the department through her professional expertise and student-centered approach. 

Dr. Shilpa Karir joined our institution on 17-10-2022 as Assistant Professor in the Department of Community Medicine and is currently serving as Associate Professor following her promotion. She completed her MBBS from Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences & Research, Burla and obtained her MD in Community Medicine from Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences, Ranchi. 

Prior to joining our institution, Dr. Shilpa Karir was associated with Kannur Medical College, Anjarakandy, where she gained valuable experience in academics and community health practices.

  • Internal and External Examiner for Undergraduate MBBS examinations under Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) – 2021 onwards. 
  • Co-author of chapter named -Stigma Mechanisms in a Globalized Pandemic in India: A Theoretical Framework for Stigma (Anirban Chatterjee and Balaji Ramraj) in a book titled Global Perspectives of COVID-19 Pandemic on Health, Education, and Role of Media.   • Postgraduate Thesis Guide under Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) — 2024 onwards. 
  • Member of Medical Education Unit (MEU) at Malabar Medical College Hospital and Research Centre- 2024 onwards.
  • Completed a one-month certified online course on Qualitative and Mixed Methods In Research (September 2024), conducted by the Foundation for Diffusion of Innovations under the guidance of Dr. Amol Dongre. 
  • Shreya P from 2022 batch, guided by Dr. Swathi C and Dr Shilpa Karir won the Best paper award at 15th NATCON 2025- National Conference for Undergraduate Medical Research held at Govt. Medical College Thiruvananthapuram. 
  • Completed Advanced Course in Medical Education (ACME 16- 2025 A Batch) at NMC Nodal Centre for Faculty Development, Government Medical College, Kottayam, Kerala. 
  • Presented poster at Nodal Centre, Govt Medical College Kottayam as part of ACME Undergraduate project titled “Effectiveness of Jigsaw Technique Compared to Small Group Discussion Among Medical Undergraduates in Community Medicine: A Mixed Method Study.” 
  • Selected by KUHS in the Panel of Reviewers for the evaluation of protocols received for the KUHS Research Appreciation Awards 2025 for Undergraduate students. 
  • Selected as IAPSM Medical College faculty to be a part of Kerala team for the 17th Common Review Mission (CRM) of National Health Mission under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India , 2025.
